Aussie Conditions

Our intense UV breaks down waxes faster than overseas. Ceramic coatings last longer, but even they need topped up more frequently here.
Quick Summary

Look, if you're sick of seeing spiderweb scratches every time the sun hits your bonnet, it's time to step up. This guide is for the blokes who want to do it right using a machine polisher and ceramic tech. I've spent 15 years fixing 'she'll be right' jobs, so follow this closely and you'll save your clear coat from an early grave.

A Quick Reality Check

Before you dive in, remember that Aussie UV doesn't mess around. I once saw a black Commodore's roof go from slightly faded to full-on clear coat failure in just one summer because the owner used a cheap 'all-in-one' wax instead of a proper sealant. If you're going to spend the arvo doing this, don't skimp on the products. I reckon Bowden's Own or Gtechniq are the only ways to go if you want it to actually last through a heatwave.

Watch Out

1. Keep that cord over your shoulder. I learned this the hard way on a black Commodore, the cord slapped the door and left a fresh scratch I had to buff out all over again. 2. Watch the edges. Paint is thinnest on the corners and body lines; keep the machine moving or you'll burn straight through to the primer before you can say 'no dramas'.
