What You'll Learn
Aussie Conditions
Look, nothing kills a fresh detail faster than crusty, soot-covered exhaust tips. Whether you are dealing with red dust from a trip out west or just months of carbon buildup on your daily, this guide covers the kit and steps you need. I've spent 15 years polishing everything from XR6 turbos to high-end Euro imports, and I reckon this is the most satisfying 20 minutes you can spend on your car.

The 'Don't Mess It Up' Checklist
What You'll Need
The Process
The Initial Rinse
Blast away loose grit and red dust with water. You don't want to be grinding sand into the metal in the next steps.
Degrease and Agitate
Spray your degreaser liberally. Let it dwell for a minute, then scrub with your brush. This gets the oily road film off.
The Heavy Lift
If there's thick carbon, use a small piece of 0000 steel wool with some polish as a lubricant. Scrape gently until the black spots vanish.
The Final Polish
Chuck some polish on a microfibre and work it into the metal until it turns black. Buff it off with a clean section of the rag.
Protective Wipe
Optional, but I reckon a quick wipe with a ceramic spray sealant helps stop the soot from sticking so hard next time.
